Medicare Plan D - Medigap Plan D

Medicare Plan D is one of the 11 Standardize Medicare plans that are part of the 2010 Medicare Improvements for Patients and Providers Act (MIPPA). The plan has all basic benefits included in Plan A. However, Medicare Plan D does not include two benefits found in the all inclusive Plan F. Medicare Plan D covers all Medicare approved benefits except Part B Deductible of $155.00 and Medicare Part B Excess Charges. Non- Participating Medicare providers may charge Excess Charges up to 15% more than the approved Medicare reimbursement schedule.

Plan D premium is usually priced $20.00 to $25.00 less per month than Plan F and approximately $13.00 per month less than Plan C. However, unlike Plan C; Plan D does not cover Part B Deductible of $155.00. Always check out the differences in premium between Plan D, C & F to determine if the additional benefit (excess charges) coverage in Plan F as well as Part B Deductible coverage would be worth the additional premium. Sometimes individuals will want to assume some of those out of pocket expenses in return for the reduction given in monthly premium. There is no correct plan to purchase because each beneficiary has their own individual needs.
