Medicare Part A Coverage Medicare is social insurance program started in 1965 under President Lyndon B Johnson for retirement healthcare. Medicare is sponsored by the U.S. Government and managed today by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services. The Medicare program has vastly expanded over the years to include those who have disabilities benefits from Social Security to dependent and survivorship benefits. Part A Medicare is one of the four different and separate Parts of Medicare coverage. Coverage:
Medicare Part A Coverage includes a semi-private room, meals, medical supplies and hospital general services. Skilled Nursing:
Home Health Care: Part-time Limited Coverage must be medically necessary such as delivery of in home medical equipment, oxygen, walkers’ hospital beds and wheelchairs. Nursing Care such as speech, language or occupational therapy provided as needed.
Hospice Care: Pays all costs, however very limited copayment/ coinsurance for outpatient RX & Eligibility: Individuals who are 65 years old or older are automatically enrolled under Part A if they are a citizen or legal resident of the United States and have earned 40 credited hours of work into the Social Security system.. Those who have been declared disabled by Social Security and receiving disability benefits will upon their 25th month also, be eligible without a premium charge. Dependents, Survivorship benefits, Civil Servant Retirement and Railroad Retirement are eligible for Medicare Part A as required above. Individuals who have End Stage Renal Disease or kidney failure and or transplant will be eligible for the Part A Medicare coverage when meeting eligibility requirements outlined above. You will automatically begin receiving Medicare Part A benefits the month your social security disability benefits begin when you have ALS (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis, also called Lou Gehrig’s disease), For those who do not qualify for Medicare Part A and have not worked and paid Medicare taxes will pay up to $461 each month in 2010. This payment could be higher if you are subject to a late enrollment penalty. |
